Amanda Cook earns 2016 CoSIDA Division III Softball Academic All-America honor

Senior outfielder Amanda Cook (Royal Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast) of the RIT softball team was named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Softball Team on Tuesday, May 24. Cook earned second team honors, becoming the first RIT softball player to earn Academic All-America honors since Jessica Gugino and Krissy Mamon in 2000.

Cook, a mechanical engineering major, has a sparkling 3.88 grade-point average. On the field, Cook enjoyed a tremendous season in 2016, batting .386 with team-leading totals of 15 doubles (second most in one season at RIT), two triples, two home runs, 30 runs batted in (tied for ninth in one season) and a .634 slugging percentage in 33 games. The center fielder also had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

She finished her RIT career with a .324 batting average, 102 hits, 28 doubles (ninth all-time at RIT), four homers, and 50 RBIs, while slugging .476. She walked 36 times, sixth most all-time at the university. Cook was a two-time RIT Female Athlete of the Week and two-time Liberty League Player of the Week in 2016. She was a two-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week in 2013 and was named the Tiger Power Den Female Athlete of the Year in 2014.

Cook, along with teammate McKenzie Martin (Deposit, NY/Deposit) earned CoSIDA Academic All-Region honors on May 10. In addition, Cook was a 2016 All-Liberty League second team selection, 2013 first team pick and 2014 honorable mention selection. She was a three-time Liberty League All-Academic Team selection and was a 2013 and 2014 NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete.

This summer, Cook, who is working on a bachelor's and master's degree in mechanical engineering, will attend Nuclear Power School Officer Development Training for the United States Navy.

RIT advanced to the Liberty League Tournament for the first time since joining in 2012, finishing the 2016 season with a 17-23 record.
