Isaiah Grafe receives scholarship from Cochlear Limited

2015 Feb 16

Isaiah Grafe, a first-year biomedical sciences major at Rochester Institute of Technology, was one of five students to receive the Graeme Clark Scholarship from Cochlear Limited. The scholarship, named after the inventor and pioneer of the multichannel cochlear implant, recognizes Cochlear Nucleus Implant recipients who demonstrate leadership, humanity and exemplary academics.

"I am thankful every day for my cochlear implants and what the gift of hearing has helped me to achieve," said Grafe, from Rochester, Minn. "I graduated with honors, while taking honor level and college courses, along with being involved with community service. Not a day goes by that I don't appreciate the miracle of being able to hear the sounds of joy, laughter and love in the voices of my family and friends. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Clark and Cochlear for giving me this remarkable gift."

The winners were formally recognized during Cochlear Celebration, a three-day event hosted by Cochlear to provide families the opportunity to learn and network with others who have had similar experiences, in Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 14.
