Marijana Bello Inducted into RIT's Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society

2012 May 24

Marijana Bello, daughter of Dijana and William Bello of Zagreb, Croatia, has been inducted into Rochester Institute of Technology's Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. Marijana is a 2006 graduate of XV. Gimnazija, Zagreb. She is a graduating senior studying international hospitality and service management at the American College of Management and Technology in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Alpha Sigma Lambda was founded in 1964 to honor students who represent the guiding principles of ASL: Activities, Scholarship and Leadership.

Being an Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society member allows RIT's senior students recognition for outstanding academic achievement and campus leadership involvement. They receive an Alpha Sigma Lambda medal to wear for graduation and they are invited to a special dinner at President Bill Destler's home honoring all recipients. The students' names are engraved on a plaque in the Student Alumni Union entrance, joining more than 600 RIT alumni already honored.

In order to be eligible for nomination, the student must meet the following criteria: full time, matriculated senior in a four/five-year program with a minimum of 3.4 cumulative GPA; an active member for one full year in at least two university activities, organizations or committees; and demonstrated leadership position.

Rochester Institute of Technology is internationally recognized for academic leadership in computing, engineering, imaging science, sustainability, and fine and applied arts, in addition to unparalleled support services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. RIT enrolls 17,500 full- and part-time students in more than 200 career-oriented and professional programs, and its cooperative education program is one of the oldest and largest in the nation.

For more than two decades, U.S. News & World Report has ranked RIT among the nation's leading comprehensive universities. RIT is featured in The Princeton Review's 2012 edition of The Best 376 Colleges as well as its Guide to 311 Green Colleges. The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2012 names RIT as a "Best Buy," and The Chronicle of Higher Education recognizes RIT among the "Great Colleges to Work For 2011."
