Sarah Szybist wins third Liberty League Volleyball Performer of the Week honor

Freshman outside hitter/right side Sarah Szybist (Chicago, IL/Ramstein) of the RIT volleyball team was named the Liberty League Women's Volleyball Performer of the Week on Monday afternoon for the week ending September 15, 2013. It is her third straight weekly honor after garnering Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors on September 2 and September 9. Szybist was named MVP of the 25th annual RIT Invitational, helping lead RIT to a 3-1 record. Szybist slammed 78 kills (4.9/set) to go along with 25 digs (1.6/set) and nine blocks (0.6/set). On Friday, she hit .458 with 14 kills in a three-set win over The College at Brockport, then had 21 kills and a season-best 10 digs in a five-set come from behind victory versus Keuka. On Saturday, Szybist slammed a season-best 25 kills, hitting .347 in a four-set win over SUNY Potsdam. She finished the weekend with 18 kills in a four-set loss to Medaille. Szybist leads the team with 216 kills (4.5/set) while hitting .250 in 12 matches this season. Szybist and the Tigers return to action on Friday, September 20 at the NYU Invitational in New York, N.Y. RIT faces host NYU at 10 a.m. on Friday, followed by UMASS-Boston at 2 p.m.
