Tara Lynch named D3hoops.com All-East Region Rookie of the Year

Freshman Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) of the RIT women's basketball team was named the 2016 D3hoops.com Women's All-East Region Rookie of the Year on Monday. Lynch was the 2016 Liberty League Rookie of the Year as well as earning All-Rookie Team honors.

Lynch finished second on the team and was eighth in the Liberty League in scoring, averaging 14.7 points per game. She set a program record for highest field goal percentage in a season, hitting 50.7 percent of her shots from the floor, and scored in double figures 21 times. She tallied a season-high 25 points on Jan. 19 versus William Smith, and averaged 6.3 rebounds per game, and had three double-doubles in 2015-16.

RIT finished the season with a program-record 20-7 record. The Tigers finished second in the Liberty League standings and hosted its first tournament game on February 24, defeating Union 68-64 for its first tournament victory.
