Graduating biotech major found enriching experiences at RIT
Recent RIT College of Science grad Ashley Adair is a trailblazer in her family. This May, she was the first to earn a college degree. She is also one of the first RIT students to graduate from a program that equips STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) majors with skills for navigating college.

Fifteen students in the Intro to Environmental Studies course published their essays online in Orion Magazine's "The Place Where You Live" section. Students were encouraged to write about their hometown, the house in which they grew up, or some other aspect of the place that means the most to them.

Valeria Gonzalez wins best paper for research on high-strength concrete
Valeria Gonzalez, an undergraduate engineering student, was part of a research team at Rochester institute of Technology that found cement and concrete strength could be improved by more than 50 percent of traditional use by incorporating industrial waste, specifically alkali-activated slag from blast furnaces. Her project work was recognized at the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers annual conference this past winter.
